Move over, Canton Tower - it looks like the crown for the world's tallest tower has now been awarded to Japan's latest megastructure - the Tokyo Sky Tower. Officially completed yesterday, the tower stands at 2,080 feet tall while the previous title holder the Canton Tower in China stands at 1,968 feet. The Tokyo Sky Tree is operated by Tobu Railways and a consortium of media companies, which is fitting since it will serve as a digital terrestrial broadcasting center for Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto region.

Remember all the commotion caused by Apple's invitation to the iPad 3 launch. A lot of folks were speculating about the loss of the home button on the tablet, and while it seemed like a natural progression for Apple to go with, it looks like those dreams have been shattered, at least for now. The folks over at Fix-iPhones.com claimed that they managed to get their hands on the digitizer for the iPad - the part of the tablet that controls its touch functions, and lo and behold - the home button is still there. According to their report, the iPad 3 will be 1mm thicker than the iPad 2, but will look just like it.

A security issue has been identified in iOS which gives third party applications and its developers unsolicited access to your photos. According to The New York Times who uncovered this issue, an application that has the permission to use your location can also access your photos. They demonstrated this by commissioning a developer to create a dummy app (which was not submitted to the App Store) that popped up a notification asking the user for location (as seen above) and when provided had complete access to the photos stored on the device.

What you are looking at above is the Ace 2, a mid-ranger from Samsung's stable of smartphones that's exclusive to the European market for the time being. Loaded up with a dual-core 800MHz CPU and a TouchWiz-skinned build of Android 2.3.6, the phone moves along smoothly, though the slight delay between touch recognition and transitions takes a bit of adjustment for those used to higher-clocked handsets. As you may already know, Samsung has announced a successor to its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, called Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Alongside it, the new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has also been showcased at MWC 2012. Curiously, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is just a minor update of the previous Tab 10.1 model. The only novelties include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a MicroSD card slot (up to 64GB). Oh, and the case has been slightly redesigned, now being 9.7mm thin (as opposed to the 8.6mm case of the older Tab 10.1).

What Asus has been developing makes an official introduction at this year's Mobile World Congress. The Asus Padfone is a smartphone that can be inserted into a tablet-shaped dock for a mean double threat. The device features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD screen, Android 4.0, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcomm, an 8-megapixel camera on the back with auto-focus and flash, and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat. It also comes with 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded thanks to the microSD slot, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, GPS, WCDMA, and HSPA+. The Padfone measures just 9.2mm at the side.

ZTE Orbit Windows Phone announced

Are you salivating after seeing HTC's One X. We don't blame you, it's a stunning piece of hardware with a set of rather lust-worthy specs. But, how does the AT&T version stack up to its international cousin. We're happy to say, quite well. Yes, the quad-core Tegra 3 was given the boot in favor of a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 and an LTE radio was crammed inside, but otherwise this is pretty much the same device we saw on the floor in Barcelona. The only piece of carrier branding is an AT&T logo above the gorgeous 4.7-inch 720p display. Thankfully, the design was left largely unmolested.

Our old friend Maurizio Porfiri and a colleague from New York's Polytechnic Institute have shown that a fish-bot will quickly attract live followers if it has a nice, fluid swimming motion. When the stroke is just right, real fish will pull up alongside and visibly relax their own motion to conserve energy, just like geese flying at the rear of a 'vee' formation.

The ViewSonic ViewPhone 4e - the downmarket sibling of the ViewPhone 4s - launched at MWC today and unlike the 4s, the 4e was essentially feature complete. This dual SIM set will ship with Android 2.3.x Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 display, a 3-megapixel camera, and an FM radio. We had a chance to see it in both yellow and a truly garish pink hue and the housings are impressively solid and while they may not come in our favorite colors, they're at least fun. While not as tack sharp as the ViewPhone 4s' IPS display, the 4e looked just fine and the the quick UI tour didn't show any obvious slowdowns or stuttering from its 650Mhz CPU.

The search engine giant was recently reported to have invented a new gesture for pulling off searches on future Android devices. With or without LTE support, with or without a quad-core processor, with or without an IGZO screen, the iPhone 5 (or whatever Apple decides to call it) may not arrive this summer. Unlike what the previous gossip on the matter claimed, today's rumor says Apple intends to keep its fall release schedule for the iPhone going for many years to come. That fall schedule has been first used in releasing the iPhone 4S last year. If for no other reason than the record sales the iPhone 4S got even if it does look exactly the same as its predecessor and doesn't come with many new features, this makes a lot of sense.
