Motorola Droid Launching July 7th via Direct Fulfillment, In Stores July 14th

The Motorola DROID 3 is rumored for either a July 7th or July 14th release date, and it looks like both will pan out to be true. A new leak is confirming that the Droid 3 will launch on July 7th for direct fulfillment then land in stores on July 14th. No price comes along with the confirmation of the next entry into the Droid lineup’s release, but you probably wouldn’t be wrong to guess $199.

Nexus S 4G Gets Official Skype Video Calling Support

Nexus S 4G Gets Official Skype Video Calling Support

Skype 2.0 launched with video calling support on only a handful of Android devices, the Nexus S being one of them. The WiMAX-ified Nexus S 4G didn’t get the same treatment. That discrepency was quickly resolved, as support for video chat on the 4G Google phone has been slipped into Skype’s Android application. Hopefully it’s the start of more devices gaining access to the new functionality.

GSM technology celebrates 20 years of calls - happy birthday!

Happy birthday to GSM - the first GSM call on a commercial network was placed on 1 July, 1991. And here we are, 20 years later when GSM is the predominant technology for cell phones, a proud grand parent of UMTS and LTE. The world's first commercial GSM call was made in Helsinki, Finland on the Radiolinja's network when prime minister Harri Holkeri called deputy mayor of Tampere Kaarina Suonio.
At the time the prevailing mobile technology was the analog NMT (so called 1G) but by 1995 GSM phones were outselling NMT models.

Apple Thunderbolt cable gutted, more than just a cable

Apple Thunderbolt cable gutted, more than just a cable

And then, the fine folks over at iFixit rip said product limb from limb in the name of science. This goes 'round, they found twelve larger chips and a smorgasbord of other bantam components within Apple's first Thunderbolt cable, and they didn't hesitate to suggest that the $50 asking price was at least somewhat justified.
