Android Key Lime Pie Ready For Fall Release

Android Key Lime Pie Ready For Fall Release

It was just yesterday when we brought you reports that Google could very well be working on a new video game console of their own, never mind that there are already existing Android-powered consoles such as the recently introduced Ouya that went for $99 a pop. I guess if that were to be true, the marketing plan would be somewhat akin to Google's range of Android smartphones, such as the Google Nexus that is manufactured by LG.

NTT DoCoMo Not Overly Eager To Get The iPhone On Their Network

With the iPhone being so popular, we would expect that many carriers around the world are scrambling for the privilege to offer it as part of its portfolio which would undoubtedly attract many customers to their networks. While it did take a few years and a few generations of iPhones to pass before all four major carriers in the US finally offer the device on contract, over in Japan it appears to be quite a different story. Japan's largest mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo, who reportedly has about half of Japan's cellular business, does not seem too interested in the device from Apple.

Xbox One Third-Party Peripheral Support Is In The Works

Xbox One Third-Party Peripheral Support Is In The Works

While Microsoft's Xbox One might be a shiny new next-gen console, there are gamers out there who probably will not appreciate having to purchase brand new accessories for the console, especially since they have spent years building up their collection for the Xbox 360. Well the bad news is that for owners of third-party accessories is that the Xbox One will not support your peripherals, although the good news is that Microsoft will be developing "solutions" in the future which should allow older peripherals to play nicely with the Xbox One.

Skype has released an update to its iPhone app that brings with it a number of new features as well as a few bug fixes. One of the new features Skype has made available its iPhone app is its free and unlimited video messaging, which the company rolled out just last week. Video messaging allows Skype users to record something that they wish to share with another Skype member, and then send it off for that person to enjoy. In addition to support for free and unlimited video messaging, the Skype for iPhone version 4.9 also makes photo sharing to other Skype users a more reliable process while also making both audio and video calls more stable.

Verizon celebrates as it reaches 500 4G LTE markets, says network is "substantially complete"

Verizon wasn't lying when it said it planned to have its 4G LTE network covering the vast majority of its 3G network by 2013′s end. Indeed, the company has smashed that goal by just under half a year, with the 500th market launching in Parkersburg, West Virgnia today. Verizon says this makes the network “substantially complete” as more than 99% of its current 3G deployment is now covered by 4G LTE. That gives nearly 300 million Americans access to the high speed data network that Verizon has been building out since 2010.

With that, Verizon knows its work isn't done.

Updated stock Android camera app ripped, ready for download

The two Google Edition phones – Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One – went on sale yesterday via the US Play Store and they run Android 4.2.2. However, both have a new camera app, boot animation and wallpaper that do not match what's in current stock Android. Those have been ripped out of those phones, so you can install and enjoy them too. The new camera features new on-screen settings - the circular menu has given way to an arc. Also, you can use the volume rocker as a shutter key.

No Instagram For Blackberry 10 Anytime Soon

It looks like when it comes to Instagram officially arriving on platforms other than iOS and Android, those users are definitely out of luck because it seems that after rejecting Windows Phone, at least for now, Instagram has also turned its back on Blackberry 10, claiming that the app will not be arriving on the Blackberry 10 platform anytime soon. This is according to Instagram's CEO, Kevin Systrom, who in an interview with Fast Company basically stated that the company has no plans to develop for Blackberry 10 at the present moment.

Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One now available to order from the Play Store

The ‘Google Edition' versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are now available to order from Google's Play Store. And right on time they are. These handsets come with stock Android, ‘as Google intended it', and are devoid of any manufacturer-specific skins. Furthermore, they'll receive operating system updates straight from Google, which hopefully means that they'll be updated as fast as the Nexus series, and not like their ‘normal' variants sold outside of the Play Store.
You can order both now, but they'll only start shipping on July 9.

Ford Fiesta ST in startling track battle against Toyota GT86

Ford Fiesta ST in startling track battle against Toyota GT86

On the surface, there's very little that the Ford Fiesta ST and Toyota GT86 (or the Scion FR-S that is sold in the US, or the largely similar Subaru BRZ) share in common. One is a hatchback with power coming from a turbocharged engine routed to the front wheels. The other is a coupe with power coming from a naturally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine routed to the rear wheels. Thing is, both of them are reasonably priced performance cars aimed at a similar segment of the automotive marketplace, so a comparison isn't out of the question.

2014 Mazda3 breaks cover early, in Euro-spec at least

We're set to get a closer look at the US-spec 2014 Mazda3 later today, but AutoExpress has the first peek at the machine's European cousin (after initial leaks reportedly came from a Czech outlet). The photos show a compact that's taken plenty of design inspiration from its older sister, the Mazda6. That's excellent news, as the larger car's dynamic front fascia, accentuated fender arches and long nose translate well to the Mazda3. Inside, there are are new and improved material choices, and the longer wheelbase means occupants get to enjoy more room than before.

UAW poised to take notes from German labor unions?

UAW poised to take notes from German labor unions?

Automotive News Europe reports the United Auto Workers may borrow from German labor unions' playbook. UAW President Bob King says that he's seen the merit of the country's labor system after having being appointed to the supervisory board of Opel last year. Germany's so-called codetermination laws state that union leaders or employee representatives must receive as many as half of the seats on the supervisory boards that control an automaker's major investments. Those boards can also hire or fire executives, and special work councils handle decisions on issues like work hours, benefits and work conditions.

Purple Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8 reportedly coming soon

Samsung announced only two color versions for its (relatively new) Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8: white and black. But a third one is seemingly coming soon. According to Sam Mobile, the Mega 6.3 and Mega 5.8 will be both released in purple “around week 28 – 30″ – thus sometime in July. Their black and white editions are already available, although only in select markets.

These below are not the real purple Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3, but we can't imagine they will look any different anyway:

In the US, AT&T and US Cellular could launch the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (with LTE connectivity) in the near future.

WaterField Designs Finn Wallet review

When I find a product or a brand that I like, I tend to be very loyal to it. As an example, I've been using the same exact WaterField Designs Catch Wallet since I reviewed it back in 2005.  I even gave them as gifts to everyone on The Gadgeteer team a couple years ago. When Heidi from WaterField Designs contacted me to let me know that they were adding a new wallet to their line, I was very excited. Let me introduce you to the Finn Wallet…

Nintendo 3DS And Wii U Fans Fight For Region-Free Consoles

Nintendo 3DS And Wii U Fans Fight For Region-Free Consoles

As some gamers are probably well-aware, Sony's upcoming PS4 console will not be region-locked along with Microsoft's Xbox One, meaning that games that are released in other regions can simply be imported if the gamer does not wish for a local release. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about Nintendo's 3DS or Wii U console, both of which are region-locked. Hoping to get the same attention that Sony fans created during the whole #PS4NoDRM Twitter campaign, 3DS and Wii U gamers are not setting out to do something similar in hopes that Nintendo will sit up and take notice and do something about it.

Babuino Wants To Transform The Smartphone Into A Mouse

Do you happen to take a look at your smartphone sometimes, only to think to yourself, that your smartphone could be a whole lot more than just an ordinary communications device. Well, a group of developers must have done that for them to work on the Babuino, a device that happens to be roughly the same size as that of an average USB flash drive, where it will be able to hook up your smartphone to a computer or other compatible device in order to have it function as a wireless mouse. Of course, other functions too are in order, including a keyboard, game controller, or camera.

Backup camera rule pushed to 2015

Once again, the federal mandate for backup cameras has been delayed. According to Automotive News, the rule requiring backup cameras in new cars is being pushed back to 2015, reportedly because regulators are now considering giving safety rating incentives to vehicles equipped with this new technology. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who will be stepping down from his role once a successor is confirmed, said that more analysis of the rule's cost to the auto industry as a whole is necessary before the mandate is officially issued, Automotive News reports.

As the closing of Google Reader draws near (July 1st, folks), I'd imagine you've already found a replacement. For those that ended up in Feedly's arms but maybe were missing that old Google Reader look — gReader might be your new best friend. The app has just received an update in the Play Store that enables Feedly Cloud support. This gives Feedly users another alternative to the official Feedly app (I'll admit, it's a bit flashy). The best part? gReader's killer podcast support remains intact.
