ALMS, Grand-Am asking fans to help name new combined series

Now that it is settled that the American Le Mans Series and the Grand-Am Rolex racing series are officially tying the knot, the next big thing needs to be settled: What are they going to call it. Organizers must be preoccupied with either determining race classes or figuring where they are going to put so many awesome GT-class racers and prototypes, because they are asking the fans to come up with a name for the combined entity. Dubbed "Name the Future," the contest started on November 20, but fear not, as it runs through the end of December. Simply head over to www.namethefuture.com and take a shot at naming the series.

Microsoft Security Essentials Fails AV-Test Certification

Microsoft Security Essentials Fails AV-Test Certification

The AV Test Institute, a German IT security and anti-virus research firm, regularly conducts tests on some of the most popular antivirus software products in the market. During its recent test for the months of September and October, it revealed that Microsoft's very own antivirus software, Microsoft Security Essentials, had failed to pass AV Test's certification. The interesting part is that the rest of the security products which included AVG, Avast, F-Secure, Bitdefender, and nineteen others, all received certification from the security research firm.

Hyundai drops the top on Veloster C3 Roll Top concept for LA

Hyundai has pulled the wraps off of a unique take on the company's three-door Veloster. the Veloster C3 Roll Top features a convertible roof stitched from repurposed industrial truck tarps. The roof can be slid either forward or back to make room for taller cargo in the rear or let more light into the cabin as see fit. Engineers also gave the concept a tailgate instead of a traditional hatch, and the vehicle's floor features salvaged skateboard decks to protect the cargo area.
Designers say the concept was inspired largely by fixed gear bikes with a focus on low-cost modification.

For a car that Fiat didn't want to build, the company sure has a lot to say about it. The damn near mythical Fiat 500e is finally here, and a trip utilizing its 100-mile range would probably give you just enough time to finish reading the press releases that came with it. Among the highlights are the color, Electrico Arancione – Electric Orange to the Anglophones among you – with contrasting white lower fascia, available only with the Bianca Perla (white) interior treatment.

Google Play Limiting Nexus 4 Purchases To 2 Per Customer

Now this is interesting. If you're planning to buy a lot of Nexus 4 smartphones on Google Play for Christmas, you might as well read this report. Apparently Google Play is now limiting the number of Nexus 4 units a user can buy. Not four, not three or one, but two. Just two Nexus 4 units and you're officially out of luck. Google hasn't confirmed the limit neither did it gave any explanation.

But perhaps, Google knew that anyone lucky enough to buy more than ten, if not a hundred Nexus 4s, can sell it at a much higher price. No question whether or not it would sell, because the Nexus 4 is one hot Android smartphone.

When Diablo 3 was revealed, Blizzard also announced that they would be introducing a proper PvP system in which players would be able to battle each other in an arena-like setting, much like how World of Warcraft gamers can participate in arena matches for various rewards. Now given the amount of success that Starcraft and Starcraft 2 had, many are wondering if perhaps Diablo 3's PvP scene could perhaps become an eSport. Of course Blizzard has to release the PvP feature first for that to be even considered, but it looks like even when it does, it does not seem that it will be made or pushed towards being an eSport.

The 2014 Ford Fiesta is getting an updated look inside and out, but the big news is what the car will be getting under the hood. Though neither is a surprise, Ford confirmed today that the Fiesta will be adding two new EcoBoost engines: Ford's first-ever three-cylinder engine focusing on efficiency and a 1.6-liter turbo-four in the Fiesta ST bringing improved performance. We've already had a taste of the turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost during a Quick Spin in Ford Focus earlier this year, but Ford promises that this engine in the Fiesta will bring impressive fuel economy and refinement to the subcompact segment.

Sony Xperia P Coated in 24-Carat Gold

When it comes to luxury phones, the rule of thumb is not to make the insides too advanced for the affluent to grasp. They are only after the bling anyway, whether it is rose gold, alligator leather, or even pure ceramic. Sony is keeping up with such tradition with its gold-coated version of the mid-range Xperia P; not the flagship Xperia T. The 4-inch unibody smartphone comes with dual-core 1GHz processor, all encased in 24-carat gold.

And because this is Sony's experiment of sorts rather than undertaking a Vertu-like business model, only a maximum of 15 units have been built.

We're sure that most of you guys are aware of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, a situation in which most people have referred to as the patent wars. Now it seems that LG has recently released an ad in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times in which it states (as seen above) that LG "makes phones, not war". The ad then goes on to state how LG has collaborated with a variety of companies in the past, such as Qualcomm just to name a few. We're not sure if their "Make phones, not war" slogan was simply stated as a general phrase, or perhaps it could be targeted at the Samsung and Apple situation.

CE-Oh no he didn't!: SpaceX creator Elon Musk says Ariane 5 rocket has 'no chance'

Entrepreneur Elon Musk is well-known for talking trash about the vehicular competition. just not when it involves rockets instead of four wheels. Still, that's what we're facing in the wake of a BBC interview. He tells the broadcaster that the Ariane 5 rocket stands "no chance" in the face of the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy systems from his own SpaceX outfit, as it's more expensive to use - and the contrast will only get worse when a cheaper, next-generation Falcon 9 arrives, he says. Musk echoes France's position that Ariane should skip a mid-life upgrade to its vehicle and jump directly to a less expensive Ariane 6.

Jaguar teases XFR-S before LA premiere

Jaguar has given us glimpse of a new "ultra-high-performance" XFR-S ahead of the vehicle's world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Jaguar calls the four-door the fastest and most powerful sedan the company has ever produced, and confirmed details are scarce beyond the fact that only 200 of the vehicles will make it to US shores. We've spotted the machine whipping around the Nürburgring a few times, and from what we can tell, it will bow with the same 550-horsepower, supercharged V8 engine that propels the XKR-S to ludicrous speed.
We have no qualms with the notion of that mill in the nose of the already loveable XF.

Windows 8 sales have been 'slow going,' Microsoft said to be blaming OEMs

We've already heard about Windows RT's "modest" beginning, and now there's talk full-blown Windows 8 ain't flying off the shelves either. According to MS aficionado Paul Thurrott and one of his "most trusted sources," uptake of the new OS isn't hitting Redmond's targets, with the blame being put on OEMs and their "inability to deliver" more inspiring hardware with better availability. Some corroboration of Windows 8's tricky birth comes from Merle McIntosh, senior VP of product management of NewEgg, who says the online retailer was "prepared for an explosion" at launch, but that sales have "been slow going" to date.
