Honda delivers first Fit EV to Torrance, CA

Honda delivers first Fit EV to Torrance, CA

Torrance, CA is going to the front of the line. Honda has delivered its first Fit EV to the city government Friday as part of an EV demonstration program that will include an unspecified number of the little electric vehicles in tests before the consumer launch in limited markets (read: California and Oregon) happens this summer. Torrance will also get a Honda plug-in hybrid in the future. From the sound of Honda's language, it appears that Torrance – as well as Google Inc. and Stanford University, the other test partners – will only get one Fit EV.

Over half of 2nd-gen WP7 phones are Nokias, but HTC leads overall

When Microsoft released their quarterly financial results, there wasnÂ't a peep about Windows Phone. So, we have to look to third-party statistics, like the one from OccassionalGamer, whose games have been installed over a million times on various WP phones out there. Their statistics show over half of the Windows Phone handsets out there bear an HTC logo with Samsung coming in after them with about a third of the handsets. LG holds third place (but they have no second-gen WP7 phones).

On Wednesday during CES 2012 in Las Vegas, Samsung introduced a new service to be added to select 2012 smart Blu-ray players that will undoubtedly be good news for consumers with a huge library of store-bought DVDs. Called Disc-to-Digital, Samsung's new service allows users to register their ownership of physical DVDs with UltraViolet, thus granting them access to the digital version stored in the cloud. UltraViolet movies can be accessed virtually anytime and anywhere — even from multiple locations at once — through the Flixter application now available for Android, iOS and via the Samsung Smart Hub.

Research without Motion: Old guys replaced by new old guy

. Research In Motion hasn't just had a difficult time innovating since the iPhone was first introduced, the company has had trouble innovating ever since its product started to morph into something more than a simple email messaging device. RIM has always been behind the curve with regard to technology in some ways. It was still making devices with black and white displays when other manufacturers were launching devices with vibrant full-color screens. RIM was one of the last manufacturers to launch an EDGE device and it was also one of the last manufacturers to include a camera in its devices.

Translogic takes DeLorean DMC-EV for a spin

This electric DeLorean is just a prototype, but our sister publication, Translogic got to take it for a spin and found that a 260-horsepower electric motor finally makes the DMC-12 the sports car everyone has always wanted it to be. While we get to see plenty of footage of the car lapping Houston Motorsports Park, this episode also includes an interview with DeLorean Motor Company CEO Stephen Wynne. While we don't want to give too much away, Wynne discusses future plans for the Texas-based DeLorean restorer and remanufacturer, which include bringing the electric DeLorean to market.
