ITC ruling clears HTC in patent case with former Apple subsidiary

ITC ruling clears HTC in patent case with former Apple subsidiary

. The International Trade Commission has ruled that camera technology used in HTC devices does not infringe on patents registered to former Apple subsidiary FlashPoint Technology. HTC is currently locked up in a number of patent spats, and the Taiwan-based company most recently was found to be infringing on a patent owned by IPCom. That ruling resulted in an injunction blocking sales of HTC smartphones in Germany, but HTC is fighting the decision, saying it does not believe the ruling will materially impact its business.

Now, Washington State University engineers are unveiling a unique implementation of the tech that could aid in the regrowth of damaged or diseased bones. Utilizing a ceramic compound, the group's optimized ProMetal 3D printer builds dissolvable scaffolds coated with a plastic binding agent that serve as a blueprint for tissue growth.

NASA commissions space washing machine for astronauts' dirty laundry

NASA commissions space washing machine for astronauts' dirty laundry

It seems that when you're in space, you will no longer have the luxury of changing your underwear everyday. Instead astronauts only get to change their underwear every 3-4 days. This is due to the costs of sending goods into space which reportedly costs between $5,000-$10,000 per 500g, making sending a daily supply of underwear a ridiculously expensive experience. So much so that NASA has tasked a small disinfectant business UMPQUA to create a washing machine that can be used in space.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Root Method Available

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus hasn't been out for long but those of you who have picked one up since its launch can finally root the thing. We'd advise against trying this method on the T-Mobile version right now as we're not sure if the method is the same for all versions of the device. If you got the unlocked/WiFi models through retail (P6200) then it could be worth a shot. Just remember that you're taking your own risk and doing this and anything that happens to your device is no one else's responsibility. Be sure to ask questions at the XDA thread before applying it. You can also find the links and instructions you'll need there.

Hack your monitor and 3D glasses for the ultimate privacy, fap to white screen!

You've always wanted a bit more privacy with your monitor (porn jokes imminent) and if you're willing to tear apart a spare LCD monitor and a pair of 3D theatre glasses, you'll get it. In lieu of a thicker tinfoil hat, Instructables' dimovi suggests removing the LCD's frame, cutting out its polarized film with a utility knife before removing the screen's film adhesive with a combination of cleaner and paint thinner and reassembling the monitor. Once complete, grab the glasses, cut out the lenses and combine them with the plastic film removed from the monitor before inserting them back into their frames.

Why Sony chose to sit on this one, we have no idea, but the company just revealed that its software update for the 2011 lineup of Xperia phones - which was released last month - also adds browser support for WebGL. This means that if you're holding an Xperia Arc, Mini, Neo, Play, Ray. or any other of its most recent handsets, then there's a good chance you're wielding one of the first Android phones to support this modern graphics platform. Designed to bring advanced visuals and gaming to the web, the API holds roots in JavaScript and has been used to develop everything from Angry Birds to far-out music videos.

Does a pair of screens placed over your eyes seem like overkill. Well, AR enthusiasts, Vuzix has heard your calls and has introduced the Tac-Eye LT - a transparent monocular AMOLED display that only puts info in front of one of your peepers. Unlike some of the company's other head-mounted displays, the Tac-Eye isn't aimed at personal entertainment. Instead, Vuzix envisions it being used as a HUD in rugged environments, offering alerts, data and video feeds. The unit comes mounted on a pair of Oakley specs (of course) but it can easily be clipped to a pair of standard safety glasses.

Spotify to allow 3rd party app access?

Spotify has got a press conference coming up tomorrow, and besides the clue about the company heading in a “new direction”, we don't really know what it's going to be about. However the folks over at All Things D believe that the music streaming service is likely to announce “The ability to let third-party developers tap into Spotify's music library and make it available to their own users - as long as those users are already paying Spotify for a premium account.”. Spotify has been reported to have spent most of fall discussing the aforementioned plans so it's likely to be the topic of discussion at tomorrow's event.

Facebook, it seems, has become the official spokesperson of the internet, or the symbol of the World Wide Web (at least for Americans, anyway). In the daily newspaper, the logo is seen printed with almost every ad. On television, they're spotted on TV commercials along with a link to the advertiser's Facebook page. A good number of websites require a Facebook login, and even chat clients like the recently upgraded AIM (which has thoroughly pissed off recent and long-time users) offers Facebook chat connectivity.

3D solar structures from MIT that can work just as well in cloudy weather

A team over at MIT have recently found a way to make solar panels work just as efficiently in cloudy weather as they do during cloudy weather. Instead of just using flat panels that only obtain the most energy when the sun is directly above them, the team has come up with 3D solar structures that are capable of collecting sunlight from all around them (i.e. ambient light) instead of from just one direction;which means in less than ideal conditions, the structures can collect almost as much light as they do on a sunny day.
