LG and Sony have settled a total of 24 patent infringement lawsuits that cover TVs, Blu-ray technology, and cell phones. Instead, the two companies have inked a cross-licensing deal that covers all these devices, which enables both parties to use each other's patents without having to pay fees. The most significant of these disputes is about the four Blu-ray related functions used in PlayStation 3, which has affected sales of the console in the United States and Europe back in Spring 2010.
With this cross-licensing deal, it seems that LG and Sony are showing Google, Apple, and Samsung how it is done.
