Lamborghini is only starting to throttle the engines on its 50th anniversary celebrations. The company lined up fifty of its Italian jobs for a cannonball run down the south runway at the Miami International Airport, the Aventador Roadster breaking 200 miles per hour, then ran them all through the streets of Miami to be properly introduced to one of their most ardent clienteles. Contrary to the appearance of the image above, no airplanes had to wait to taxi behind the ground-based flyers.

Survey says more people trust independents than dealers for car repairs... do you?

A new survey by AutoMD.com finds car owners trust independent shops over dealerships when it comes to vehicle repairs. The site surveyed 3,000 owners online between November 2 and December 12, 2012, and 80 percent of the respondents said they felt they had been overcharged for repairs at a dealership, while 90 percent felt they could save more money by visiting an independent shop. But it's not just about savings, either. When asked who owners trust more to repair their cars, 67 percent said a private shop, while only 33 percent trust their local dealer.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is a pretty hot model around the world. But it took the Russians to make it cool. We have few hard, cold facts and only small slivers of information about these photos, but it seems the icy Toyota was part of the International Snow & Ice Festival in Perm, Russia. Artists took a huge chunk of ice and shaved it down to the temporary art installation you see here. Many factories and chemical plants have suspended production in Beijing in an attempt to curb dangerous pollution, according to the South China Morning Post. The air pollution is some of the worst the city has seen in years, with harmful PM2.5 particle rates hovering between 200 and 400 micrograms per cubic meter. That number is down from as high as 886 on Sunday. For contrast, the US Environmental Protection Agency regulations say PM2.5 concentration at any location be no higher than 65 micrograms per cubic meter, with average maximums not to exceed 15 micrograms per cubic meter.

Announcing the good news on its blog, the company says that it is now supporting Secure Sockets Layer or SSL for omnibox searches on Chrome without the need to sign into Google. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has just awarded Apple a patent design for a glass-on metal trackpad, the ones that you usually see on a MacBook. The newly awarded patent, U.S. Patent No. D674382, which is entitled “Portable Computer,” claims an “ornamental design” for a portable computer. The patent application, filed in March last year, reveals that Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive are two among many inventors of the patent.

Apple Shares Drop Following iPhone 5 Supply Order Rumors

It seems that the rumors are beginning taking its toll on Apple. Earlier today, citing Japans's Nikkei, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple might be cutting iPhone 5 supply orders due to low demand. And just a few hours after that, Apple's shares were beginning to decline. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, stock fell as much as 4.5 percent to $497.
“It dropped to $520.30 at the close in New York on Jan. 11 and has lost 26 percent from a September record,” it said. Apple has yet to release a statement to confirm the reports.

The 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot are here, and as expected, the big news is the availability of a six-speed automatic transmission on certain models. The transmission, sourced from PowerTech (a subsidiary of Hyundai) will attempt to address the noise, vibration and harshness issues suffered by older CVT-equipped models by using noise-resistant gears. It has a long sixth gear to improve fuel economy, but Jeep hasn't revealed the mileage numbers for the auto-equipped models yet. The new automatic will be available as an option on the Sport trim of both spec, and as standard on Latitude and Limited models.

Bugatti transmission order means Veyron may last well into 2014

Bugatti has reportedly extended its order for the unique seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox in the Veyron through 2014. Originally, the automaker had only maintained a contract for the transmissions through the end of 2013. Rumors have been swirling around the possibility of a new iteration of the Veyron in the works capable of dropping a 1.8-second 0-60 time.
